The manuscript for my next book, The Stay Behinds, is finished. After a second round of proofs—and having handed them in just in time for the printed book to reach US booksellers on schedule—I think I have found and corrected most of the remaining errors. Having played this game before, however, I already know that my eyes will immediately land on something glaringly wrong when I first open the book in September.
Even so, my aim is always to submit the best possible book I can. Why spend years writing it—or ask strangers to purchase it—if you’re not happy down to the last semicolon?
I mean that literally. Readers might be interested in seeing the kind of corrections that I, and many other conscientious authors, make at this point in the process.
